“Sea Cabinet” is a chapter in Ayoung Kim’s Zepheth, Whale Oil, Hanging Gardens, Shell (Seoul Museum of Art, 2015).
“It came to my mind that this anecdote related to parasites has some interesting connotations related to the phenomena of migra- tion and immigration in the modern era. That many of the people, who left for the Middle East following the Oil Crisis for the economic renewal of the Korean nation, did not return home alone but with parasites, and that unlike the refugees of today, the parasites arrived quietly and comfortably in secret, unknown to their hosts, was very interesting to me.”

「캐비넷 바다」는 김아영의 책 『제페트, 공중정원, 고래기름, 쉘』 (서울시립미술관, 2015)에 수록된 챕터입니다.
“저는 기생충과 관련된 이 일화가, 이동과 이주라는 근대의 양상을 너무나 흥미로운 방식으로 함축해 보여 주고 있다는 생각이 들었습니다. 석유파동 직 후 국가 경제를 회복시키기 위해 중동으로 떠났던 많은 분들이 귀국하면서, 혼 자서 돌아온 것이 아니라 기생충들을 데리고 돌아왔다는 점, 그 기생충들이 현대의 난민들과 달리 숙주 몰래 슬며시, 아주 안락한 상태로 이주했다는 점 등이 무척 흥미롭게 느껴졌습니다.”
