Today, Seoul Station is at the center of all railroads in Korea. It is a starting point and terminus. But located on the international railroad system that crosses the Korean peninsula, it was a stopover from its origin. The end of Gyeongbu Line, which connects Seoul and Busan, continued to the Japanese inland railway across the Sea of Genkai. Gyeongui Line, a railroad that connected Seoul to the northern cities, had stops at Gaesung, Pyongyang and Shinuiju so that one could travel up north to Manchuria or Siberia. In the 2000s, there had been some discussion of the possibility of connecting the railway systems that cross the North and the South, but the project is currently in limbo. The current work starts from an imaginary assumption that the railway – let\u2019s call it a Trans Korean-Manchurian-Siberian Railway – is built, and existed until now through different contexts of various historical eras. The Trans KMS Railway, which we can imagine as running through Busan and Seoul and penetrating Manchuria and Siberia, will keep on running through islands, peninsula, icy lands in the Northern region, the Steppes, tranquil lakes and canyons \u2013 through 70 years of history.<\/p>\n
