Walking into the lime green corridor space, visitors encounter an oval-shaped portrait photograph titled Pangea Elements. Placed at the end of the corridor, the photograph consists of three unknown figures looking down upon the visitors. The space is filled with indistinct voices. Seeping out of six speakers, the sound is reminiscent of wind, unintelligible whispers, or nonhuman chatter. These are in fact voices of the unseen – or more specifically, those of refugees who have recently arrived in Korea from Yemen. The incomprehensibility of the muttering attests to the sense of fiction in their displaced existence; however, the same sound disrupts of the system, ultimately threatening the state’s mythology of a “pure blood.”
