Petra Genetrix, the protagonist of the series Porosity Valley, is a migrant, mineral, and data cluster. In this lecture performance, the artist traces the origin of Petra Genetrix who constantly crosses borders, gender boundaries, and the concept of existence and nonexistence and creates her own hyperbolic mythology. While utilizing audio and video excerpts from her existing works, Ayoung Kim uses her own voice to create a verbal narrative exploring those agents who cross boundaries. By doing so, she continues to trace multifaceted crystal faces of Petra Genetrix, who is fundamentally porous and ambiguous.

선명한 경계를 만들어내는 땅과 바다는, 지각판 자체가 끊임없이 이동하고 있으므로 영원히 이주하는 주체에 포함된다. 바위에서 태어난 존재라는 의미의 페트로제네시스(petrogenesis) 개념은, 영상작품 <다공성 계곡> 연작의 주인공인 광물 덩어리이자 데이터 조각, 가상의 신화적 존재이자 난민-이주자-비존재인 페트라 제네트릭스의 기원 및 본질과 자연스럽게 중첩된다. 본래 페트라 제네트릭스(Petra Genetrix)의 기원은 미트라교라 일컬어지는 고대 페르시아-로마의 종교에서, 바위에서 태어난 미트라 신의 도상 그 자체, 또는 생명을 낳은 바위, 모암(어머니 바위)의 의미를 지닌 매트릭스(matrix)를 의미하는 용어이다. <다공성 계곡> 시리즈의 주인공 페트라 제네트릭스를 둘러싼 중첩된 개념과 시간을 찾아 헤매는 이 렉쳐 퍼포먼스에서, 작가는 자신의 목소리를 변조함으로써 여러 존재의 목소리를 소환하고 관통시킨다. 렉쳐는 페트라 제네트릭스의 기원, 나아가 바위에서 태어난 생명의 신화, 머물러 있는듯 보이지만 실은 영원히 이주하고 있는 지각판-땅 덩어리, 유라시아 대륙을 형성하는 중앙아시아 조산대의 지질학적 기원까지 아우른다. 이는 현실을 낯선 방식으로 인지하게 만드는 픽션이다.
<다공성 계곡> 시리즈의 주인공 페트라 제네트릭스는 일련의 작업에서, 가상의 광물 덩어리이자 데이터 조각이며, 이주자의 신분이 된 신적 존재로 나타난다. 이 렉쳐 퍼포먼스에서 작가는, 국경, 젠더, 존재와 비존재, 시공간의 경계를 끊임없이 넘나드는 페트라의 기원을 추적해 나감과 동시에 페트라를 위한 가상의 신화를 만들어 나간다. 작가는 이 렉쳐 퍼포먼스에서 영상 및 사운드 조각을 운용함과 동시에 스스로의 목소리를 여러 차례 변조함으로써 경계를 넘나드는 다양한 존재를 담지하게 되며, 본질적으로 다공적이고 모호한 개체일 수밖에 없는 페트라 제네트릭스의 픽션을 이어 나간다.
